Potential changes to the FWFN Council for 2027

Fort William First Nation is considering a change to the number of elected Council seats for the 2027 General Election. The band currently has 12 Councillors plus a Chief, and is seeking input on reducing councillor positions to as low as 7. However, FWFN has not provided sufficient information about the consequences of such changes. While a reduced council might make decision-making faster, it might also create family-dominated voting blocks and/or otherwise lead to less democratic decision making.

To help educate the public, I used Claude AI to build a simple tool that shows how the results of the 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2023 elections would have looked with anywhere from 7 to 12 Council seats. Drag the slider (at the link above) and see for yourself, then complete the official survey.
